Meet Unreal United

Meet Unreal United

A common League Platform for the communities of the Unreal-series

The website you're browsing has transitioned from a PassionateGaming-specific league site into a wider league platform, offering the same cup & ladder functionality to other communities of the Unreal-series. This platform is called Unreal United!

What is this?

Unreal United is a project created in effort to re-unite the various Unreal-franchise communities that broke apart since the demise of ClanBase in 2013, the original de-facto home of Unreal Tournament leagues. The idea is to offer these communities a single web platform for running their leagues (cups, ladders, other events) comfortably from one place, eliminating the vast manual effort for both the organizers and the participants, while bringing everything together on the same site, especially knowing that many players are a part of multiple communities.

The platform was used by PassionateGaming for over 4 years since its inception in 2022. Now, we wanted to offer the other communities to also host their tournaments here while still keeping their branding and style separate. This is achieved through introducing community realms.

Realms

Each community (such as PassionateGaming, Instagib Nation, or others) will have its own "sub-site" on Unreal United - called a realm. Each realm has access to full functionality that the site has to offer, including multiple types of cups (team, draft, individual, heat) and ladders (team, individual). Each realm has its own admin team with their permissions limited to their realm.

A realm can have its own style: main accent colors, header and footer logos, favicon and SEO configuration. Each can have their own dynamically created pages on the platform used for their needs, such as FAQ's, PUG rules, policies etc.

So what's shared?

First and foremost - user accounts. If you already had a user account in PassionateGaming, the same account will work in all other realms; you do not have to register again. This is especially important because many players are a part of multiple communities.

The same applies to teams (clans) and any awards people earn in different tournaments. If you got a gold trophy in one realm, it will show globally across all.

Additionally, the front page is also shared, showing community news and matches from all registered realms.

What's not shared?

  • Leagues: any cup or ladder within a realm belongs exclusively to that realm. And so any functionality underneath those is linked to that specific realm.
  • Servers: realm admins can configure their game servers independently from the other realms. Those servers can be enabled for the cups and bookable via the booking system.
  • Polls: realms can run polls in their community without those showing up on other realms.
  • User permissions: an admin in one community is not an admin in another. There is a wide range of permissions that the admins can assign out to the website (realm) users.

Switching realms

Navigating to the main unrealunited.com page will present user with a selection of realms. While inside a realm, in the footer of the site there's an easy switch of the realms.

If you navigate to a league that belongs to another realm, you're automatically redirected to that realm.
